Control + Alt + Delete: Rebooting Your Life

December 3rd is fast approaching. That means the launch of Birth of a Vixen is right around the corner. The last time I was remotely close to this level of nervous was nine years ago when I was prepping to jump a broom. For as wonderful a ceremony as that was jumping a broom in a full-length gown, a crown of baby’s breath woven in my hair and with one hand tied to my husband’s, it was a bit tricky. Now, my first book release has my stomach in so many knots it could be mistaken for a Celtic weave.

So what do I do to function without swallowing a bottle of Pepto?

I work on Shadow Faith series book 2: Virus Within.

There is only so much I can do in a day. The new job and kids distract me well enough most of the time, but then there are moments like this when I am home alone with my thoughts. The edits are done. I’m afraid to touch the words again because then I might push back the release day due to doubt. The final tweaks on the cover can’t be done until this weekend. (Which I hope to reveal next Monday. * fingers crossed *) For the most part Birth of a Vixen is rip, roaring and ready to go.

Book 2, Virus Within, takes place almost ten years after Birth of a Vixen. There are a lot of changes to society in that time and Veronica has a lot to adjust to while trying to stay alive. At first I found this difficult to write because of how out of place she felt. Now that I’ve hit the reset button on my life I can put myself in her shoes better. The emotions, her passions and fears are clearer. I first came up with this book back when I, too, was going through some of the hardest challenges of my life. Since then so much had worked itself out that I fell out of touch with her. I’m glad to report since saying goodbye to the ambulance company I worked for that the words flow and the nerves fade to the back of my mind.

Every one has there own way to deal with stress. For me, I have to delve head long into the fire to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is bright. It is glorious. And with the holidays fast approaching, it smells like pumpkin pie.
