Face Your Fear

What is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

The definition: a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

What this fails to mention is hallucinations, seizures, vegetative states or zoning out, and depression so bad you couldn’t give a flying fuck about, well, anything. You lose yourself. You lose your ability to think straight. And as a writer that hurts the worse because you won’t be able to attempt to formulate a coherent sentence let alone spell most words.

It takes time, hard work, and being gentle with yourself to rediscover who you truly are. When I say that, I do not mean the person you were before the event happened or between the event and when you snapped. I mean the ‘you’ you were meant to be. The person that makes you happy, the one you dreamed about in your joyous imaginings.

So what is PTSD? It is one of the hardest bumps in the roads. It will forever leave me scarred, but makes me stronger and happier for having faced my worse nightmares.

Please if you have any questions or concerns leave them in the comment section or contact me on facebook or twitter. I know this is a controversial or deep topic. I do respond in all formats because you are all very important to me. Without you none of this would be possible.
